Many contribute to successful summer at Soldotna club

Posted: Friday, August 29, 2003

The Boys and Girls Club of Soldotna just finished our first summer session at Redoubt Elementary, and the program would not have been as successful if so many had not volunteered their time and expertise.

We appreciate the support of the following businesses: Kenai Safeway, Fred Meyer, J-B Stor N'Lok and Beemun's.

We also thank the following organizations for giving us tours of their facilities: the Soldotna Police Department (and Officer Meyer, who made it so much fun!); Central Emergency Services (Gary Hale was a great host!); Central Peninsula General Hospital (Michelle Crawford gave a great tour and it opened the eyes of all the kids in one way or another!); and the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska (a very inspiring place!)

Thanks to all the individuals who gave their time to enlighten and educate: Nicole Johnson from the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge; Jennifer Werth from Caring for the Kenai (the kids loved the "worms"!); Judy Downs, a life-skills facilitator; Mr. Hamby, a geologist; and J.D. Uponen and Don Weller, who provided music and entertainment.

Last, but not least, thank you to all the parents who gave donations and volunteered their time.

Thank you all so much!

Karen Strash, unit director Boys and Girls Club of Soldotna
