Dennis with team Carhartt shows Mike Sweeney the latest in Carhartt footwear on board the Swat Truck.
The interactive Carhartt Swat Truck was on the Peninsula last week and spent all day Tuesday out in front of Sweeney’s Clothing store in Soldotna. “This is what we call a true Carhartt experience,” said Dennis of team Carhartt, “We have people come up and put their hands on everything inside and outside the truck while I let folks know a little about what we’re doing with Carhartt and the new things we’re making for the work force of America for both women and men.”

Carhartt is a sponsor of NASCAR Champion Matt Kenseth, and part of his racing car now travels with the Swat Truck and gives people a chance to try their skill at changing a tire the way it’s done by a pit crew, “You’re being timed from the moment you pick up the lug gun, you have to take it off and put it back on just like the pit crew does and if you can do it within 13 seconds you’re looking good and we might even have a job for you,” said Dennis. The quickest time logged at Sweeney’s Tuesday was 18:47 seconds, a very respectable time according to the Team Carhartt member. Roping the bull was gig of another color and while most people felt they could handle a lug gun, a laureate was a little more unusual, “It’s our way of letting folks know that we’ve been around since 1889 and are everywhere there is work being done from the ranch to the race track and with a little practice we had some good roping happening here today,” explained Dennis.
For many years Sweeney’s Clothing in Soldotna has been known as the “Working Man’s Store,” and in 2002 Sweeney was honored with a national award from Carhartt for leading the country in Carhartt sales. Now with Carhartt featuring a women’s working apparel line Sweeney’s is an outerwear family store for all types of apparel, “We try to offer a wide selection for the family from the full Carhartt line to New Balance and children’s outdoor and sports wear from head to toe, and it’s always a fun day when we can have the Swat Truck here with us for our families to enjoy,” said Sweeney.
