ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A federal judge sentenced a Russian immigrant to 18 months in prison in a case in which Russian dancers performed nude at an Anchorage club.

Pavel Agafanov was sentenced in U.S. District Court on Wednesday. He was the second of three men to be sentenced this week in connection with the scheme.

Agafanov pleaded guilty as part of a plea agreement to visa fraud and bringing underage girls across state lines for immoral purposes.

According to court papers, Agafonov brought together Chugiak resident Tony Kennard and Victor Virchenko, the dance instructor who brought the seven women from Russia to Anchorage.

Members of the dance group were taken into custody after immigration officials learned that they were stripping at the Crazy Horse club in January.

Phillip Weidner, Agafonov's attorney, said his client was trying to provide opportunities for the women to make a life in America.

The women told prosecutors they were told they would be dancing in cultural festivals in Alaska.
