FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A Fairbanks man whose trial on charges that he raped a live-in babysitter ended in a hung jury has been sentenced to four years in prison.
William Jones, 38, pleaded no contest to one count of second-degree sexual assault in May under a plea agreement. A jury failed to reach a verdict on more serious charges in April after four days of deliberation.
Jones was sentenced on Wednesday. Under the terms of the plea agreement, he could have been sentenced to five years in prison.
Jones was arrested in November and charged with raping a 17-year-old girl on two occasions. Both times he was accused of holding a knife to the girl's throat.
