Racing Lions to host motocross race

The Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions host the final state motocross race Saturday and Sunday, at Twin City Raceway's motocross track. Racers from around the state will compete for the state championships. For more information, contact Wendy Hudson at 260-3305 or cell phone 398-3306.

Dog agility trial planned for weekend

The Kenai Kennel Club will host an American Kennel Club Agility Trial this weekend at the Kenai Little League Field on Spruce Street in Kenai.

More than 100 dogs are scheduled to compete -- from Chihuahuas to Great Danes -- in running obstacle courses that include jumps, tunnels, an A-frame, teeter-totter and poles for weaving through. Events begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday and generally are finished by mid afternoon. It is free and open to the public.

Spectators planning to attend should bring something to sit on and be prepared for any weather. There will be a food wagon.

Swim team to hold tryouts

The Soldotna Silver Salmon Swim Team is an age group swimming team. Children are invited to participate in the program. Tryouts will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday. For more information, contact the Soldotna High School Swimming Pool at 262-7419, or Sohail Marey at 262-1506.

Kenai Chamber holds candidate forum

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce is hosting a "Meet the Candidates" forum with candidates for Kenai Peninsula Borough mayor, with moderator Judge Cranston. The confirmed candidates are Dale Bagley and Ken Lancaster. The Kenai Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be held at noon Wednesday at Paradisos Restaurant. It is $10.50 and open to the public.

Two speakers planned for chamber luncheon

The North Peninsula Chamber of Commerce luncheon meets at the North Kenai Baptist Church. The luncheon begins at noon Thursday. The speakers are Ken Lancaster, borough mayor candidate, and Sue Diaz, with the American Legion. The public is welcome to attend.

Boys and Girls Club farming basketball league

The Boys and Girls Club is accepting registration for its high school basketball league. The season runs Sept. 30 through Nov. 16. The registration deadline is Sept. 6. People can register in person at the Kenai Boys and Girls Club, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Registrations also can be faxed or mailed in. For more information, call 283-2682.

KDLL to hold meeting

The KDLL-FM Board of Directors will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 12, at the KDLL studio, in the Economic Development District Building, 3 miles north of Kenai. The meeting is open to the public.
