New trooper named for Kodiak

KODIAK (AP) -- An Alaska State Trooper from Delta Junction has been named to head up the trooper post in Kodiak.

Maurice Hughes will succeed Sgt. Darlene Turner, who retired last month after seven years in the post.

Hughes has been a trooper for 10 years in Soldotna and Delta Junction.

Prior to that he lived in Kodiak for 11 years, serving as a Coast Guard electronics technician. While in Kodiak he founded a local search and rescue group.

Hughes is expected to start his new job in early November.
