JUNEAU (AP) -- A Sitka man died Thursday in an early morning plane crash at the Juneau International Airport.
The pilot, 69-year-old Anton Bowers, was killed when the Cessna 172 went down on takeoff at 5:15 a.m., Alaska State Troopers said. Bowers was the only person on board the single-engine plane.
The plane took off and banked left before crashing into the Silver Bay Aviation Hangar, Trooper spokesman Greg Wilkinson said. There was no one in the hangar at the time.
Airport officials said the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration were investigating.
