ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Nine-year-old Seth Dinkel edged nurseryman Scott Robb with a repeat win Friday in the Seventh Annual Giant Cabbage Weigh-off at the Alaska State Fair.
Dinkel's 89.9-pound winner will tuck another $2,000 into the boy's college fund. Robb took a $1,000 second prize for his 85.6-pound cabbage.
Earlier in the week, Robb set new state records with a 68.55-pound watermelon and a monstrous 47.85-pound cantaloupe, 20 pounds larger than the previous state record, which he also held.
Brenna Dinkel, 7, also of Palmer, took the $500 third prize with a 74.3-pound cabbage.
In the junior division, Zach Lemm, 7, of Meadow Lake, won first place and $250 for a 60.9-pound cabbage. Heather Downing, 12, of Palmer, won second and $150 with a 48.8-pound cabbage. And the Faulkner family -- Jennifer, 10, and Luke, 8, of Palmer -- won third place and $100 for a 46.4-pound cabbage.
