Open house

Kenai Central High School will hold its back to school open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Recovery Month to be celebrated

September is National Recovery Month. The Serenity House and Central Peninsula Hospital will celebrate it Sept. 18 at the Soldotna Sports Center from noon to 4 p.m.

This is a community celebration and the event is free. Games, food, poster contest, cake walk, and carnival style booths are some of the planned activities. For more information, call 714-4521.

Immunizations available

The Kenai Public Health Center has appointments available for immunizations in Kenai and on Thursday's in Soldotna. To schedule an appointment or for more information, call 335-3400.

Craft fundraiser slated

A pre-holiday craft and gift fundraiser for Polio Plus will be held Sept. 17 and 18 at the Aspen Hotel in Soldotna. The hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 17 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 18.

A queen size Alaska theme quilt raffle will also be held to benefit Polio Plus in its effort to end polio worldwide. Pottery, artwork, metal art, dried floral wreaths, quilts, herbal products, jewelry and more will be offered.

Cardiac support group to meet

The Cardiac Patient Support Group will meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month in the Redoubt Room, located in the lower level at Central Peninsula Hospital. The group invites male and female patients dealing with heart disease and their family members to participate. La Leche group to meet

The La Leche League of Soldotna and Kenai will meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month at the Frontier Community Services Playroom in the Red Diamond Center on Kalifornsky Beach Road. The league is a breastfeeding resource group that offers free monthly meetings, mother-to-mother breastfeeding support, telephone assistance and a lending library. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers are invited to attend. Babies are welcome.

Nonprofits to meet

The Nonprofit Organization executive director group will meet on the first Friday of each month at noon at Charlottes in Kenai. For more information, call Linda Swarner at 262-3111.

Hospice events announced

* Hospice of the Central Peninsula is hosting a nine-week, free of charge, bereavement support group-for those with any kind of loss. The group will meet on Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Sept. 15. Call 262-0453 for more information.

* Hospice of the Central Peninsula Volunteer training will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna on Oct. 19, 21, 23, 26, 28, and 30 from 5 to 9 p.m. except Saturday will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration is required and space is limited. For more information, call 262-0453.

Lifeguard class offered

Nikiski Pool is offering the American Red Cross Lifeguard Class from Sept. 27 through Oct. 1, and Oct. 4 and 5 from 5 to 10 p.m. The cost is $135 or sign up for the T.A.P. program and the fee can be waived.

Rec center schedule announced

The Kenai Recreation Center is starting up its Home-school Gym time and Toddler Time programs. The programs will start Sept. 14.

Toddler time will be held Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. This program is for ages up to 5-years-old. The cost is $1 per child if over the age of 12 months.

Homeschool Gym time will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The cost is $1 per child.
