Baker, Romig marry on grandparents' 50th anniversary

Samantha L. Baker and Joseph H. Romig of Kenai were married Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Grace Lutheran Church in Kenai. The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Thomas Schmidt.

The bride is the daughter of Doneva Baker of Kenai and the late Sam Baker of Soldotna.

The groom is the son of Jean Romig of Cooper Landing and the late Dr. Howard Romig of Anchor-age.

The maid of honor was Sara Taylor. The bridesmaids were Kim Eby and Sarah Eckert. All wore crushed velvet lavender gowns. The flower girls, Rebecca Marshall and Alexis Baker, also wore lavender gowns.

The best man was Simon Marshall, brother-in-law of the groom, of California. Robert Romig of Nikiski and Tyler Romig of Cooper Landing were the groomsmen. The ring bearers were Nikolas and Alex Pahno of Heath, Texas.

Following the ceremony, a horse and carriage parade proceeded to the Kenai Senior Citizens Center for a Cinderella-themed reception, including paper purple pumpkins made by Mona Painter of Cooper Landing.


Moon and Raye Mullin

Samantha is employed by Big Kmart.

Joseph works at Carrs Quality Center.

The couple honeymooned in Maui and lives in Kenai.

The reception also celebrated the 50th wedding anniversary of Moon and Raye Mullin of Kasilof, the bride's grandparents. The couple moved from Texas to Kenai in 1960 with three children -- Roy, 11, Doneva, 8, and Mickey, 5.

They have enjoyed extensive traveling abroad, as well as their home in Alaska.

Extended family now includes 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Forms for engagements and weddings are available at the Clarion's Kenai and Soldotna offices. Color or black and white pictures also may be submitted. Photos with an address written on the back will be returned.

Weddings must be submitted within six months to be printed.
