The Nikiski Bulldogs improved to 3-0 in the Great Land Conference and 3-1 overall Thursday with a 24-0 victory in Sitka.
The Wolves have now been outscored 121-0 this year. Knowing that ahead of time, Nikiski coach Ned Clooten brought just 15 players to Sitka.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Justin Tumbaga returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown and added a 29-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Israel Blatchford also had a 25-yard, first-quarter touchdown run and a field goal early in the second quarter.
As a team, Nikiski rushed for 423 yards, with Tumbaga rolling up 221 and Jordan McCaughey notching 114.
“It was fun to come down to Sitka,” said Clooten, whose team arrived at 10 a.m. Thursday and will leave Sitka at 6 a.m. today. “It was an opportunity to come and see a different part of the state.
“I felt like we got better today.”
