Alaska State Troopers promoted to sergeant

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Five Alaska State Troopers and one corporal over the next month will be promoted to the rank of sergeant, officials said Friday.

Cpl. Burke Barrick, an instructor at the Department of Public Safety Academy in Sitka who was named Trooper of the Year for the Academy in 1999, will be post supervisor in Nome.

Trooper Steve Adams with the the Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit, will supervise the Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team. Trooper Patrick Davis, also with drug enforcement, will supervise the unit.

Trooper Maurice Hughes Jr., in charge of the Alaska State Trooper post in Delta Junction, will supervise the Kodiak post.

Trooper Gary Johnson will become supervisor of the Delta Junction post.

Trooper Barry Wilson of the Girdwood post will be transferred to ''E'' Detachment headquarters in Soldotna.

The Division of Fish and Wildlife Protection also announced that Lt. Joe Masters will be promoted to captain and head ''C'' Detachment, which encompasses most of western Alaska.
