ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Anchorage police are investigating the discovery of a body found on the Cook Inlet mud flats, near the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail.

Police say duck hunters found the badly decomposed body of a man shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday and notified police.

The body was found about 200 yards from a wooded area south of Point Woronzof. Police said it appears to have been in the marshy area for months and was not visible from the coastal trail.

Investigators said an identification card found on the body identified it as a man who had been reported missing. Police hope to establish a positive investigation through dental records or by some other means.

It is not yet known how the man died or if foul play was involved, police said.
