Boedeker to discuss sales tax exemption's effects

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will hold its luncheon at noon today at the Riverside House. Tom Boedeker, Soldotna city manager, will speak on how a grocery sales tax exemption would affect the city. For more information, call the chamber at 262-9814.

Tryouts for swim team to be held today

The Soldotna Silver Salmon Swim Team, an age group swimming team, will hold tryouts at 5 p.m. today. For more information, call Soldotna High School Swimming Pool at 262-7419 or Coach Sohail Marey at 262-1506.

Specialist to discuss vision loss at senior center

The Independent Living Center will offer a workshop on low vision at 1 p.m. today at the Nikiski Senior Citizens Center. John Clare, vision specialist, will provide information on the most common causes of vision loss and strategies for coping.

After the presentation, those attending will be invited to sample various low-vision aids. For more information, call Laurel or Heather at 262-6333.

Final visit for spay and neuter clinic scheduled

This season's final visit for the Alaska SPCA spay-neuter clinic will be today through Friday. Appointments for sterilization surgeries can be made by calling Nancy Wall at 262-1624. Low-cost vaccinations also are available on those days on a walk-in basis from noon to 4 p.m.

Kenai chamber to feature mayoral candidates

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce this week will host a "Meet the Candidates" forum with candidates for Kenai Peninsula Borough mayor. The moderator will be Judge Cranston. Borough Mayor Dale Bagley and challenger Ken Lancaster will be featured.

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be at noon Wednesday at Paradisos Restaurant. Cost is $10.50. It is open to the public.

Two speakers planned for chamber luncheon

The North Peninsula Chamber of Commerce luncheon meets at noon Thursday at the North Kenai Baptist Church. The speakers this week will be Ken Lancaster, borough mayor candidate, and Sue Diaz with the American Legion. The public is welcome to attend.

Boys and Girls Club taking basketball registrations

The Boys and Girls Club is accepting registrations for its high school basketball league. The season runs Sept. 30 through Nov. 16. The registration deadline is Friday. People can register in person at the Kenai Boys and Girls Club from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Registrations also can be faxed or mailed in. For more information, call 283-2682.

KDLL board of directors to meet

KDLL's board of directors will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at the KDLL studio, in the Economic Development District building, three miles north of Kenai. The meeting is open to the public.
