FAIRBANKS (AP) A record 600 students showed up for orientation activities at the University of Alaska Fairbanks last weekend.

University officials said they expect that will translate into the university's fourth year in a row of rising enrollment.

Enrollment Management Dean Claudia Clark said she's confident there will be a 5 percent increase in enrollment this year, and she expects the increase will be closer to 8 percent.

Enrollment for the fall semester last year was 5,632 at the Fairbanks campus, and 9,390 when the Tanana Valley and rural campuses were included in the count.
