Wade T. Seward
Longtime resident of Soldotna resident Wade T. Seward died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006. He was 79.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at First Baptist Church, 159 Binkley Ave., Soldotna. A reception will follow.
Mr. Seward was born Nov. 18, 1926, to James and Allenea Seward in Temple, Okla. In 1946, he served as a second class seaman in the Navy. He moved to Alaska in 1964, just after the earthquake, with his wife, Georgia, and two sons from Eunice, N.M., where he had been an oil field worker.
Friend and neighbor Dallas Jones subdivided property with him and they built several log homes together in the 1970s. In 1983, his wife died from cancer and on Nov. 10, 1983, he married her sister, Altie. He worked as an operator for 22 years for Chevron at the Swanson River plant until his retirement in 1986. After retirement, among other things, he stayed active with water aerobics, taking care of all the flowers around the couple’s house, traveling (collected a new hat from every place he visited), and playing cards and dominoes. In 1997 he became an active member of TOPS Chapter No. 164 and remained so for the past nine years.
“He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Soldotna where he came to know Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was baptized in 1999. The last several years he enjoyed walking at Fred Meyer in the early morning hours six days a week and then would have coffee and visit with other walkers. He was a man who never said a bad word about anyone and never met a stranger. He was liked by all who knew him and all those who loved him will miss him dearly,” his family said.
Mr. Seward was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Wid; brother, J.M.; sister, Jessie; first wife; and nephew, Scott.
He is survived by his second wife of 23 years, Altie; sons, Edgar of Fayetteville, Ark., and Phil and his wife, Jo Linda, of Soldotna; brothers, Alex and his wife, Delores, of Temple, Okla., and Bill and his wife, Ruth, of Temple; sister-in-law, Josie Seward of Dufur, Ore.; children by his second marriage, Sharon Cochran and her husband, Jerry, of El Paso, Texas, Hazel Reese of El Paso, Carl Reese of Newport News, Va., Ricky Reese of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Melissa Reese of Soldotna; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
