AMBER Alert test scheduled

The state of Alaska and broadcasters will test the state’s AMBER Alert system between 10:47 and 11 a.m. Tuesday. An alert message will be broadcast on radio and television and be identified as a test. Amber Alert is an early warning system available for use by law enforcement to alert the public when a child has been kidnapped. For more information about the test, contact Alaska State Trooper Lt. Raval to speak of nonviolent action, yoga

Manu Raval will share his knowledge of nonviolent political action, yoga history and life inspired by Mahatma Gandhi at 7 p.m. Tuesday at River City Books in Soldotna. Raval grew up in Punjab, India with Gandhi. For more information, call Mary Jo Spotts at 262-5477.

Rec center has ways for kids to burn energy

The Kenai Recreation Center will offer home school hour from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, starting Wednesday. The fee is $1 per child.

Tot Time will be available from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays beginning Tuesday. For more information, call 283-3855.

Caregiver support offered

The National Family Caregiver Support Program will hold the following meetings this month: Caregiver Support Group from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Sterling Senior Center; “Medication Management” training from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Cooper Landing Community Hall; “Safe Patient Transfer” training from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 21 at Independent Care Advantage, Access Alaska office at 10807 Kenai Spur Highway in Kenai; and Caregiver Support Group from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center.

Fairbanks orchestra to perform

The Performing Arts Society presents a family-oriented concert by the Fairbanks Arctic Chamber Orchestra. The orchestra will perform “Peter and the Wolf” and Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony on Sept. 23 at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium at Kenai Central High School.
