The public is invited to meet with members of the Paralyzed Veterans of America on Sept. 3 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska in Kenai.
The vets, from around the U.S., are visiting the Kenai Peninsula and participating in local fishing opportunities through a division of the PVA called the Outdoor Recreation Heritage Fund.

The Southcentral Alaska Mycological Society is inviting everyone on the Kenai Peninsula to the second annual Mushroommania.
The event begins at 10 a.m. on Sept. 10 with a mushroom foray being conducted from the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road, where the fungus will be identified and exhibited until 5 p.m. Presentations will also be conducted.
Another foray and more activities and presentations are planned for Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. with added activites for children conducted by a mycologist from Girdwood. A limited number of spaces for the 1 p.m. children's event are available, so don't be late.

Pool winter hours beginning Sept. 28 will be Tuesdays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to 8 p,m,; Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. with the waterslide all day Fridays,
Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. with the waterslide open both days.

Associate professor of nursing, Lynn Senette, R.N., and professor of biology, Dr. David Wartinbee, will be holding a nursing information and advising session for students from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 10 in room 109 at the Kenai River Campus in Soldotna.
The session will cover a wide range of subjects including information for students who are just beginning to think of nursing as a profession as well as information for students who are intending to apply for the next nursing cohort, which will start January 2011. The first hour of the session will include an informational presentation and a Q and A portion. The rest of the session will be dedicated to individual student advising sessions. Each advising session will be 15 minutes long; students who would like to sign up for an advising slot need can do so at KRC Student Services by calling 262-0330.
