UNALASKA (AP) -- A 16-year-old has been charged with the shooting death of his brother Saturday on board a boat anchored near Unalaska.
Grigori Zuboff was charged Sunday with first-degree murder in the death of Elisei ''Alex'' Zuboff, said Unalaska Public Safety Sgt. Matt Betzen. The brothers are from the Kenai Peninsula village of Nikolaevsk.
Police were notified of trouble aboard the vessel ''Ambition'' shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday when a harbor officer reported a radio distress call from the vessel.
Police found Elisei Zuboff's body on the boat, shot through the chest. Next to the body was a Russian-style assault rifle.
According to charging documents, Grigori Zuboff admitted shooting his brother but said it was unintentional. He told police he didn't know the gun was loaded.
But the charging documents say another juvenile on board the boat told investigators Grigori Zuboff had said he wanted to kill his brother and asked for help loading the gun. The brothers had reportedly had a fight earlier in the day. The juvenile, who was not identified, said he didn't take Grigori Zuboff's statement seriously.
Grigori Zuboff is being charged as an adult and is being held on $100,000 bail. His brother's body has been sent to Anchorage for autopsy.
