WHERE: 1.366-mile, egg-shaped Darlington Raceway in Darlington, S.C.
WHEN: Television coverage starts at 12:30 p.m.; race starts at 1
BROADCAST: Television TNT; Radio Motor Racing Network
DISTANCE: 367 laps
LAST YEAR'S WINNER: Ward Burton
NOTES: The most-common fear this week will be tire wear. The newer, harder tires provided by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. start losing their grip after just 10 laps. Most drivers will need new tires long before they run out of gas. Midway into a run, most cars will be up against the outside wall because there's no traction on the bottom groove.
