Butchering class to be held today

Carrol Martin will hold a butchering demonstration from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. The class will butcher a portion of a Ninilchik Fair 4-H auction steer, which was purchased by Udelhoven Oilfield System Services.

Borough to open satellite office

The Kenai Peninsula Borough is opening a satellite office in Seward on Thursday. This annex will provide east peninsula residents with a local source for borough information and materials, such as plat maps and sales tax forms. The annex will be in the Seward City Hall building, room 202. Hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 224-2001.

Food Bank auction to be held

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank's sixth annual Soup Supper and Auction will be held Friday at the Soldotna Sports Center. Tickets are $25 and include dinner, a hand-crafted pottery bowl, music and auctions. A winning raffle ticket also will be drawn for a round-trip for two to Hawaii. Raffle tickets are $10. Western fall roundup to be held

The second annual Fall Roundup will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center. It will feature a chuck-wagon style dinner, Western entertainment, horse drawn carriage rides and tall tales from the Old West.

There will be door prizes and a raffle for an afghan. Dinner tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for children. To purchase tickets early, call 262-2322. Tickets also are available at the senior center.

Kindergarten students tutored daily

The Copper River Correspondence Program is a small group of kindergarten students who meet daily to be tutored by a certified teacher.

Students practice penmanship, the alphabet, letter sounds, numbers and simple addition. The enrollment deadline is Sept. 15. For more information, call 262-1284.

Tourism council to host regional conference

The Kenai Peninsula Tourism Marketing Council will host the 2002 Regional Tourism Conference on Sept. 20 at the Soldotna Sports Center. The conference will feature marketing workshops, educational seminars, a trade show and a keynote address from a national motivational speaker.

The conference also will have entertainment, food, auction items and awards. Attendance at the conference and banquet is open to the public.

Chamber seeks photos

KDLL meeting planned
