Runners compete in Homer

The Wasilla boys and Anchorage Christian Schools girls won team titles Friday at the Homer Invitational.

The Warriors put four runners in the top 10 in totaling 42 points for the win. ACS was second with 68 points.

Palmer's Jake Parisien covered the five-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 5 seconds, for the victory. Soldotna's Patrick Lybrand was second at 16:27 to lead the Stars to fifth in the team standings. Kenai Central's Levi Sutton was the only other peninsula runner in the top 10. He finished seventh at 16:59 to lead the Kardinals to sixth in the team standings.

Also from the peninsula, Garrett Hoanin of Homer finished 14th to lead the Mariners to a third-place finish and Erick Romig of Skyview finished 16th to lead the Panthers to a seventh place finish. Mike Wicker paced Nikiski with a 26th-place finish, while Forrest Garrison paced Ninilchik with a 46th-place finish. The Bulldogs and Wolverines did not have enough runners to field a team.

In the girls race, the Lions put three runners in the top 10 to claim the title. ACS had 37 points, while Wasilla had 56 points. Nychele Fischetti won the race, clocking 18:58 to defeat Kenai Central's Alee Rowley by 50 seconds. Rowley led the Kardinals to a fourth-place team finish.

Brittany Osland finished fourth to lead Soldotna to fifth place, while Skyview's Ariel Barker was sixth, Skyview's Michaela Hutchison was ninth and Homer's Tia Halpin was 10th. The Panthers and Mariners did not field a team.

Also, Laura Rooper paced Nikiski by finishing 13th and Mirijam Brems paced Ninilchik by finishing 40th. The Bulldogs and Wolverines did not field a team.

Seward girls win own invite

Denali Foldager won the girls race Friday to lead the Seward girls to a victory in the Seward Invitational.

The Seahawks put five runners in the top 10 to defeat runner-up Bartlett by 34 points. Foldager, who finished five kilometers in 20:35, defeated Cook Inlet Academy's Holly Kopp by 10 seconds. Also in the top 10 for the Seahawks were Rubye Foldager (third), Sarah Glaser (fifth), Tekla Backlund (seventh) and Kendra Oldow (10th).

Brook Forsi also finished sixth for CIA, which did not have enough runners to field a team.

On the boys side, Bartlett put five runners in the top 10 to score 24 points and beat Seward by 10. Bartlett's Conner Bethka ran 17:45 to beat Seward's David Apperson by 34 seconds. Others in the top 10 for the Seahawks were Travis Price (fifth), Matt Nyholm (sixth) and Mark Chase (10th).

Chuck Kopp led CIA by finishing 13th. The Eagles did not have enough runners to field a team.
