Mobile mammography unit to visit

The Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska's mobile mammography unit will be in Kenai today and Wednesday and in Soldotna Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Times will be 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Referrals are required.

After school program returns

The Boys and Girls After School Clubhouse, in the old Kenai Elementary School building, will open today for students in the first grade through age 12. Teen programs, for ages 13 through 18, will start Sept. 18. Children can ride the school bus to the club; contact the school secretary or Laidlaw for information on transportation.

School board candidates to speak

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will hold a luncheon at noon today at the Riverside House in Soldotna. This week's speakers are District D and E school board candidates. The meeting is open to the public. For more information, call 262-9814.

Grief support offered

Hospice of the Central Peninsula's Healing Hearts grief support program for mothers who have experienced the death of a child will begin today. The group will meet for nine weeks.

Hospice will conduct a "Share" support group for women who have experienced miscarriage, SIDS or other infant loss. This group will begin Sept. 14.

United Way exec to speak to Kenai chamber

The speaker at Wednesday's Kenai Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be Evy Gebhardt, executive director of the Kenai Peninsula United Way. The meeting will be at Paradisos Restaurant at noon.

Flyfishers asked to help with cleanup

The eighth annual Alaska Flyfishers Kenai River cleanup will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday at the Sportsman's Landing parking lot in Cooper Landing, near the Russian River Ferry. Volunteers are welcome, and coffee, doughnuts, lunch and dinner will be provided. All are welcome to stay for fishing on Sunday.

Flu vaccine to be available mid-November

The Public Health Department will have the flu vaccine available in mid-November. The Homer Public Health Center reports that supplies may be low and will give priority to high-risk clients.
