Comments sought on Unocal proposal

Posted: Thursday, September 05, 2002

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife service will take public comments on a Unocal proposal to expand commercial gas development in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.

A public meeting will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Aspen Hotel, 326 Binkley Circle in Soldotna.

The proposed project will include additional roads, drill pads, gravel pits and air, land and water pollution.

According to the Fish and Wildlife Service's Draft Environmental Impact State-ment, the proposed development will adversely affect water quality, wetlands, tourism, recreation, and salmon and brown bear habitat.
