Goldstein, Adams win at Seward Invitational

Soldotna's Ari Goldstein and Seward's Matt Adams both won the Seward Invitational by sizable margins Saturday at Seward.

Goldstein finished the five-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 46 seconds, to defeat teammate and runner-up Katie Franzmann by 50 seconds. Katy Pankoski also finished ninth for the Stars to help them to the team title. Grace was the second girls team, while Palmer was third.

Adams finished in 17:05 to defeat Cook Inlet Academy's Brian Beeson by 57 seconds. Adams led Seward to the boys team title, while Anchorage Christian Schools was second and Palmer was third.

Also in the girls race, Casey Martinez of Grace was third in 21:02, Sarah Martinez of Grace was fourth in 21:26, Denali Foldager of Seward was fifth in 21:48, Rubye Foldager of Seward was sixth in 21:46, Matti Cox of Palmer was seventh in 21:56, Suzanna Caldwell of Wasilla was eighth in 21:56, Pankoski was ninth in 21:58 and Hallidie Wilt of Unalaska was 10th in 22:09.

In the boys race, Jesse Moe of ACS was third in 18:16, Jake Parisien of Palmer was fourth in 18:17, Matt Blair of Seward was fifth in 18:22, Jonathan Moyer of ACS was sixth in 18:24, Eli Hutchison of Skyview was seventh in 18:36, Elliott Gauthier of Skyview was eighth in 18:34, Cason Ferguson of Chevak was ninth in 18:38 and Caleb Chase of Soldotna was 10th in 18:41.

Homer girls, ACS boys win at Homer Invitational

Hallidie Wilt of Unalaska won the girls race and Jonathan Moyer from Anchorage Christian Schools took the boys race at the Homer Invitational Friday in Homer. Wilt covered the 5-kilometer course in 20 minutes, 20.5 seconds while Moyer finished in 17:18.2.

Melanie Mach led the Homer girls to the team title, taking third with a time of 21:04.6. Tia Halpin was sixth, Katie Arsenault was ninth and Julie Seneff 10th for the Mariners.

Nikiski's Laura Rooper had a strong individual showing, taking fifth with a time of 21:55.0.

Cook Inlet Academy's Brian Beeson was second in the boys race, 3.9 seconds behind Moyer. Moyer's ACS teammates took third, fourth, fifth, seventh, eighth and ninth to win the team title.

Homer's Ben Hawkins was 10th overall in 18:29.1 and Nikiski's Nick Whitaker was 19th with a time of 19:12.5.

Kodiak edges Kenai in dual meet

The Kenai Central High School cross country teams visited Kodiak for a dual meet Saturday but were edged by the Bears in both the boys and the girls competitions.

In the boys race, Kenai's Trevor Baldwin took first place with a time of 17 minutes, 18 seconds, but Kodiak took the next three places and won the team competition by a score of 26-31. Jed McGlasson was fifth for Kenai, Levi Sutton was sixth and John McGlasson was seventh.

Kenai's Lauren Baldwin won the girls race in 21:06. Alee Rowley was third and Elena Bird was fifth for the Kardinals, but Kodiak was able to edge Kenai out for the team win, 27-31.
