Hoping to blast off with their greatest fundraiser ever, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula will be hosting their annual dinner gala and auction at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska in Kenai this Saturday, September 9th at 6:00pm. “This is a new venue for us but it’s a spectacular place to hold the event. Our theme this year is ‘A Child is a Diamond in the Ruff,’ and we actually have a diamond that has been donated by George Walton of the Diamond and Gold Co. in Anchorage. This is a $19,000 stone that is a beautiful oval cut diamond with great color that will be raffled off and drawn for December 1st. We will have a number of other stones also that will be put into the auction and the balloon pop will feature a jewelry box with correlating numbers to win one of five gems to be given away,” said Kelli Brewer, board member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula.

Additionally there will be a 42inch plasma big screen TV, donated by Dan’s TV in Kenai that will be raffled off this year, “For that fella in your life that’s getting ready for football season you can get a ticket for the TV for him and he can get one for the diamond for you, so it’s a his and hers kind of event to benefit the kids in our community and all the Boys & Girls Club programs,” added Brewer. A host of other items have also been donated and will be available at this year’s auction.

Due to the growth of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula the organization is looking for a big turn out this year, “We have seven clubs and the Teen Center in Kenai now that we operate and we’re serving over 4,000 kids on the Peninsula and that doesn’t include our average daily attendance at summer programs or our after school activities,” said Brenda Alberg, Boys & Girls Clubs executive director. Tickets may be purchased from any Boys & Girls Club board member, or by calling Kelli Brewer at Alaska Air West in Nikiski at 776-5520, or by calling the Boys & Girls Club in Kenai at 283-2682.
