Thanks for helping kids float

Posted: Sunday, September 05, 2010

Special thanks and recognition are to be given to the Nikiski community for their participation in establishing the Kids Don't Float Program this summer at our local lakes.

Thank you to the Nikiski Community Council for their sponsorship of the program and monetary contribution towards supplies; Spenard Builder's Supply and AA Dan's Construction, Inc their contribution of building materials; NPRSA for storage of the vests; Paul Johnson (NHS shop instructor), students of Nikiski High School and Brian Quesnel for construction of the signs; and Tyler Peek, AJ Ewing, and Boy Scout Pack 659 for volunteering their time to secure the signs.

Heartfelt thanks go to my family, Dan, Stefan and Rebekah, who donated their weekends to transport the signs, and helped auger and cement the signs in place.

Look for Kids Don't Float vests at Stormy Lake (boat launch and swimming area), Swanson River drop off site, Island Lake, Thetis Lake, and Chugach Estates Lake, and Douglas Lake.

It continues to be a pleasure to work with local businesses, community organizations and individuals who are committed to the success of our community.
