Tesoro has done it again! Challenger Learning Center of Alaska (CLCA) wants to publically and wholeheartedly thank Steve Hansen and Tesoro Alaska Company for the donation of 25 fully-funded space-simulator missions for area fifth- and sixth-grade students in the amount of $25,000. In fact, this is the fourth year in a row that Tesoro has graciously donated funds for these missions! As a direct result of Tesoro's generosity, over 2,500 students will have participated in our hands-on, minds-on programming over the four year period. Furthermore, Tesoro's contributions to CLCA have totaled over $100,000 in the last few years!
CLCA is a non-profit informal educational facility that does not receive any regular city, borough, state, or federal funding and relies heavily on continued community support and donations in order to further our mission of getting kids excited about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. It is through generous contributions, such as Tesoro's, that we are able to encourage the youth of Alaska! CLCA strives to inspire students to look beyond the ordinary, imagine the unattainable and answer those seemingly impossible questions through the pursuit of higher education in STEM.
Our vision is to have every student in Alaska experience the wonders of education through our simulated space missions, e-Missions, workshops, and outreach opportunities each year. These Tesoro funds will assist in encouraging students to pursue higher educational goals and opportunities that will better prepare them to successfully compete in the 21st Century global market place. Again, thank you to Steve Hansen and Tesoro for your generous donation and continued support!
