McCarthy (AP) -- Alaska State Troopers are investigating a report of vandalism done to trucks owned by the state Department of Transportation working on the McCarthy Road.

Troopers were called to Mile 42 of the remote road Thursday and found that eight tires on three DOT vehicles had been slashed and about 100 gallons of fuel were stolen. The damage is estimated at about $1,000.

The McCarthy road is a narrow, 60-mile gravel road from Chitina to McCarthy in the heart to Wrangell St. Elias National Park.
