State DOT truck collides with black bear

SUMMIT LAKE (AP) -- A state truck collided with black bear near Summit Lake on the Seward Highway.

Alaska State Troopers said the collision occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday at Mile 43 of the highway.

The Department of Transportation truck sustained about $250 in damage.

The bear meat was salvaged by workers from the state Department of Fish and Game and given to charity.
