Spay-neuter clinic to extend schedule

Due to an unexpectedly large response, the Alaska SPCA Low-Cost Spay-Neuter Clinic has extended its last seasonal schedule to the Kenai Peninsula. Appointments are available the entire week of Sept. 9 through 13. Low-cost vaccinations will be available on a walk-in basis noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Coupons for $20 off any sterilization are available from Friends of Pets in Anchorage and can be used at any veterinary clinic in the state. Radiothon fund-raiser to be held

The annual KRSM-WRCC Radiothon fund-raiser takes place Monday. The radiothon benefits the Women's Resource and Crisis Center. To make a pledge, call KSRM at 283-5811 on Monday or mail a donation to WRCC, 325 S. Spruce, Kenai, AK 99611.

PFLAG to hold meeting

Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday. For more information call 283-4678.

American Legion to hold Sept. 11 ceremony

Kenai Peninsula residents are invited to a commemoration ceremony to honor the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks at noon Wednesday in the Rene Henderson Auditorium at Kenai Central High School.

The ceremony will begin by recognizing emergency service personnel. There will be a number of different events during the ceremony, including the placement of ceremonial wreaths to commemorate those who have fought in past wars and are now deceased.

"The ceremony will not only honor those who died, but also those who live and continue to fight for the freedom of this great nation," according to a press release from the American Legion.

An open house will be held at the American Legion Post No. 20 immediately following the ceremony. For more information contact Sue Diaz at 283-3222.

Remembrance church service to be held

A remembrance service is scheduled with Pastor Bob Reasner at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Abundant Life church located at Mile 81.5 Sterling Highway, in Sterling. For more information, call 262-7266.

Community Service to be hosted

An evening of unity to honor fallen heroes and pray for the country will be hosted by the Soldotna-Kenai body of Christ. Community leaders will be speaking and attending the service. It will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Soldotna High School. For more information contact the Soldotna Church of God at 262-4729.

Memorial blood drive to be held

The Blood Bank of Alaska Kenai Peninsula Center will have a memorial blood drive from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Those participating should drink caffeine-free liquids and eat a good meal before donating. A free Sept. 11 keepsake pin will be given to those donating.
