Amongst our British cousins, about 1 percent believe Saddam Hussein had anything to do with the Sept 11 attack. About 49 percent of American civilians blame Saddam, while two out of three enlisted men laying their lives on the line in Iraq feel they are helping to get revenge for the dastardly attack.
The invasion of Iraq was easily the worst blunder this nation has made in its 225 year history, but an extremely large portion of our population has been a victim of a hugely successful dis-information campaign put forth by the Bush administration, and abetted by such sources as Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and the O’Reilly report.
President Bush has largely dodged the responsibility for his incompetence due to this massive propaganda effort. History will not be kind to him.
The Israeli bombing of Lebanon was done with weapons supplied by the U.S., and had the blessing of the administration. It was about as successful as our own invasion of Iraq. Hezbollah emerged stronger than ever, and the likelihood of suicide attacks has increased enormously.
The two most important things we could do to reduce the chances of a terrorist attack on our own soil is to remove our troops from the Middle East, and be more even-handed in our relationship with Arab countries and Israel.
