Mobile mammography unit in Soldotna

The Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska's mobile mammography unit will be in Soldotna today, Friday and Saturday. Times will be 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Referrals are required.

SPCA clinic in town for last time this year

Group to reconstruct historic cabin

Friends of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will reconstruct Andrew Berg's cabin Saturday at the refuge visitors center. The public is invited to participate. The event will begin at 11 a.m.

Fly-fishers host clean-up

Alaska Fly-fishers will hold its eighth annual Kenai River clean-up Saturday and Sunday. Participation is open to the public. The event will begin at the Sportsman's Landing parking lot, near the Russian River ferry, at 7 a.m. Lunch, snacks and dinner will be provided. All are welcome to stay for fishing Sunday. Sears Elementary plans barbecue

The third annual Sears Elementary barbecue will be Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. on the school playground. Hot dogs, chips, pop and dessert will be served. The cost is $2, and additional hot dogs can be purchased for $1. For more information, call the school at 283-4826.

Defensive driving course offered

A one-day, state-approved defensive driving course will be held in room 114 at Kenai Peninsula College at 9 a.m. on Sunday. The course will also be available Oct. 8, Nov. 12, and Dec. 10. The cost is $51. For more information, call 283-5837.

Cheerleaders to hold clinic

The Kenai Central High School football cheerleaders will hold a Junior High Cheerleading Clinic for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders at the KCHS auditorium commons. The event begins Tuesday at 3 p.m and runs through Sept. 14.
