HOMER (AP) -- A Chicago man is more than $31,000 richer for landing the largest fish in the Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby.
David Chaparro caught his 337-pound flatfish July 9 aboard the ''Fringe Benefit,'' which was operated by Inlet Charters.
It was a summer of big fish for the Homer Halibut Derby. Contestants caught five fish weighing more than 300 pounds, organizers said.
It also appears to be a record-sized payoff. Two-dollars from every ticket sold went into jackpot winnings.
The actual size of the jackpot will be determined once all the tickets have been collected, organizers said.
