Two Anchorage men who died Saturday in a boating accident in Resurrection Bay have been identified by Alaska State Troopers.
Deok Won Cho, 53, and Jong Sil Lee, 48, died of hypothermia and-or drowning Saturday after their boat took on water and they tried to swim for shore.
The victims, along with three survivors from the incident Yu Kim, 30, Sung M. Seo, 37, and Sam Lin, 58, all of Anchorage were pulled from the water by passing boats. The survivors were taken to Seward Medical Center.
Troopers said the five Anchorage residents were fishing from an anchored 22-foot recreational boat near Rugged Island in Resurrection Bay when strong winds created rough waves that began to swamp the boat. Those aboard couldn't start the engine and placed a distress call to the Coast Guard around 12:30 p.m. A nearby tour boat heard the call and found debris and the three survivors, but not the boat. A fishing boat picked up the two victims, who were in shallower water not reachable by the tour boat.
