CARTS provides rides for vets
Central Area Rural Transit Inc. (CARTS) has established a joint resolution with the Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Services, the Kenai Veterans Center and Kenai Elks Lodge No. 2425. Thanks to a grant from the Elks lodge, the transportation service will provide free rides to qualified veterans for medical appointments and pharmacy visits. Library plans September events
Friends of the Library is offering raffle tickets for the chance to win a grand prize of $7,500 or 15 other cash prizes. The tickets include a prime rib dinner for two. Only 300 tickets are available. The dinner and drawing will be Oct. 29, followed by a dinner and dance Oct. 30. Proceeds will benefit the Kenai Community Library. The Kenai Library Commission meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kenai City Hall has been canceled.
The library also will host a number of club meetings and events open to the public throughout the month of September.
Toddler story time is at 11 a.m. Wednesdays.
Preschool story time is at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays.
The Totem Tracers Genealogy Society will be at the library at 1 p.m. Sept. 11 for Resource Saturday, when members will be available to help the public with family history research. Totem Tracers members will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21.
A beginning Internet class will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 13 in the library conference room. The class will cover basic Internet skills and searching techniques. To register, call Julie at 283-4378.
The Writers' Group will meet at 6 p.m. Sept. 16 in the library conference room. Anyone who enjoys writing for profit or pleasure is invited to attend.
A drawing for compact disc by Ry Cooder and Manuel Galban will be Sept. 25. The disc features classic Mambo and light Salsa music.
The Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 28 in the conference room to discuss "Man's Search for Meaning," by Viktor E. Frankl.

Fashion show planned
The Peninsula Take-A-Break will hold a fur fashion show luncheon at noon Sept. 22 at Solid Rock Conference Center. All women are invited to attend. Recording artist and show business personality Marcia Gehris of San Marcos, Calif., will provide music and share what it means to be a star. The cost of the luncheon is $7.
