Eisenhower’s words worth remembering

Posted: Thursday, September 07, 2006

As billions of dollars are spent on the war in Iraq we should remember the words of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, war hero and Republican president of the United States: “Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world of arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of laborers, the genius of scientists, the hope of its children.”
