The body of an unidentified man was recovered from the Kenai River Monday afternoon.
Kenai police Sgt. Scott McBride said a boater reported seeing a lifeless body in the river near the Warren Ames Bridge about 2:30 p.m. Kenai police and firefighters responded and later found the body of a man upstream from the bridge about two hours later.
McBride said the body has been taken to the medical officer's office in Anchorage for identification. Police had not identified the body in Kenai.
The only person reported missing and remains unrecovered from the river this season is Robert A. Smithwick, 41, of Soldotna. Smithwick disappeared into the river July 21 about 100 feet upstream from the Pillars boat launch.
