Longtime Alaskan and Soldotna resident Kathryn Laura Church, 71, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna.
At her request, no services are planned.
Ms. Church was born Jan. 13, 1939, in Bad Axe, Mich. She moved to Alaska in 1966 living in Kenai, Anchorage, Kodiak, Soldotna and Petersville. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, reading and working with stained glass.
"Mom loved Alaska and had a pioneering spirit even building a cabin at Peter's Creek in Petersville in the mid 1970s. She led and adventurous life and had a great sense of humor. She will be missed. Her beloved dog, Kobuk, preceded her in death," her family said.
Ms. Church was preceded in death by her father, Clayton Church; mother, Mary Meyer; and sister, Linda Bradbury.
She is survived by her daughters, Lauri Wachholtz of Anchorage and Barbara Gayer and her husband, Tom, of Cooper Landing; sons, Ron Wachholtz and his wife, Kathy, of Arlington, Wash., Dan Wachholtz of Anchorage and Mike Wachholtz of Vacaville, Calif.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Art Church and his wife, Yvonne, of Wasilla and Vern Church and his wife, Terry, of Snohomish, Wash.; and sister, Joy Eastman of Topock, Ariz.
The family suggests that memorial donations be sent to Frontier Community Services, 43335 K-Beach Rd., Ste. 36, Soldotna, AK 99669.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
