FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A Tanana man was arrested after firing a rifle into his ceiling while accusing a friend of stealing money, Alaska State Troopers said.
Milton Nikolai Jr., 43, was charged with assault and misconduct involving a weapon after he pointed a .308-caliber rifle at Allen Starr and fired it after a night of drinking at Nikolai's home in Tanana on Tuesday, troopers said.
Starr, 37, told troopers he had had been drinking with Nikolai and left to eat and walk an elder home. He returned a few hours later.
Nikolai accused Starr of stealing money from him. Nikolai told troopers he made Starr empty his pockets. Prosecutors said Nikolai then pointed the rifle at Starr and fired one round into the ceiling.
While Nikolai reloaded, Starr left the house.
Troopers investigated Wednesday and found a round lodged in the ceiling in Nikolai's house.
Nikolai was jailed at Fairbanks Correctional Center on $10,000 bail.
