Birch Ridge Report: Nice time for a fall drive

Posted: Thursday, September 08, 2005

It's that time again; the fireweed has turned golden, the dogwood flowers are gone from the rough around the fairways, and your new sweater looks just swell. It's golf time in the fall!

You can't beat the just-right temperature; and if you haven't looked outside yet, the sun is actually shining. I have made one very important observation on this perfectly spectacular fall day — the lawn is a trifle too wet to mow but the golf course is just right for golf. What are you waiting for?

It's also not too late to make that once-in-a-lifetime hole-in-one. Brandon Avery did just that two weeks ago while visiting from Oregon. He placed that beauty in hole 8 from 175 yards (blue tees), and was so excited he almost forgot to play the rest of his nine. (I would have needed a stretcher.) Congrats to you Brandon — what say you come back next year, eh?

Most leagues here at Birch Ridge have wound down; the only remaining one is Men's Night on Wednesdays. They come to an end on Sept 14. (Not the men, silly.) The last tournament of the season is the Couples' Cold Weather Classic slated for Sept 24. Call the clubhouse for details and sign-up. Hope I see you there.

Well, I've got that new sweater, so I'm headed to the course. And remember that big Callaway driver with the cantaloupe-sized head that I'm always talking about? Well, it's mine now so you better watch out — I'm lethal. See you on the front nine!
