Lisa Salmine

Obituary

Posted: Sunday, September 09, 2001

Lifelong Alaska resident Lisa Salmine died in her sleep Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at her Soldotna home. She was 40.

Ms. Salmine was born Jan. 5, 1961, in Kodiak. She was working for the Forest Service when an accident left her paralyzed and in a wheelchair.

"All that knew Lisa will attest to the fact that her physical limitations did little to hinder her spirit and mental abilities," her family said. "She enjoyed writing, poetry, painting, weaving, gardening and acting. Lisa acted in several performances at Cyrano's Playhouse and had a natural talent for anything related to the arts. She could act, impersonate and bring a smile to the most faint-hearted with her wonderful sense of humor," the family said.

"Lisa's capacity to overcome her adversities was an inspiration to those fortunate enough to know her. Her sweetness, good cheer and talent for telling stories made her the favorite auntie of her many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all."

Ms. Salmine was preceded in death by her nephew, James Hansen; brother, Richard Salmine; and mother, Jo Kopun.

She is survived by companion and love of her life, Anthony "Buzz" King; her father, John Salmine of Anchorage; brother, Don Salmine of Caro, Mich.; and sisters Cathy Mendoza of Albany, Ga., Pam Lewis of Bismark, N.D, Wesley Macek of Kenai, and Patricia Theis of Anchorage.
