Stars sweep Homer Invite

The Soldotna High School swimming teams swept the team titles at the Homer Invitational Saturday.

The Soldotna boys won with a score of 114 points, 17 points ahead of second-place Homer. The Soldotna girls netted 116 points, beating out the Mariners by 43 points.

The Kenai boys were fifth with 10 points, Seward was sixth with eight points, and Skyview tied Palmer for eighth with seven points.

The Kenai girls finished fifth with 26 points, Skyview was seventh with eight points and Seward was eighth with six points.

The Soldotna teams took first in every relay. Individual winners for the Soldotna boys included Nick Sorrell in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.46) and the 100 freestyle (51.21), Ty Mann-Schweigert in the 500 freestyle (5:24.90) and Clayton Harrison in the 100 backstroke (59.33).

Winners for the Soldotna girls included Jenna Syverson in the 50 freestyle (25.17) and 100 freestyle (56.14), Amberlee Query in the 100 backstroke (1:07.29) and the 200 individual medley (2:27.47) and Abby Kiffmeyer in the 100 butterfly (1:01.54).

Kenai's Rachel Knowles took first in the 1-meter dive, totaling 337.95 points.

Homer's Jake Bell took first in the boys 50 freestyle (23.56) while Monica Ulmer won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.37). Seward's Jacob Boulden won the 100 breaststroke (1:08.65).
