Posted: Sunday, September 09, 2001

The Homer High School football team survived a late rally by visiting Houston Friday to pick up a nonconference victory.

The Mariners (4-1 overall) put the first points of the game on the board with 10:54 left in the second quarter when Aaron Smith scored on a 7-yard run.

In the third quarter, Tom Crandall increased Homer's lead to 9-0 when he tackled a Houston player for a safety.

Shaun Haragan caught a 30-yard scoring strike from Peter Clemens with 5:47 left in the fourth quarter, and the duo hooked up again for the two-point conversion to make the score 9-8. But Homer was able to hold the lead.

Houston dropped to 1-4 with the loss.
