Alzheimer's walk, workshops planned

South Peninsula Hospital, in conjunction with the Homer Senior Citizens Center and the Alzheimer's Association, is planning a week of informative workshops. Sessions will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the senior center, starting today and ending with the annual Amblin' for Alzheimer's Walk on Saturday.

Chamber to hold luncheon

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will have Ben Schoffmann, project manager for Marathon Oil Co., speak on Alaska activities with a focus on Ninilchik. The luncheon will be at noon Tuesday at the Riverside House. For more information, call the chamber at 262-9814.

PFLAG to meet this week

Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday. For more information, call 283-4678.

Remembrance church service to be held

A remembrance service is scheduled with Pastor Bob Reasner at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Abundant Life at Mile 81.5 of the Sterling Highway in Sterling. For more information, call 262-7266.

Community service to be hosted

An evening of unity to honor fallen heroes and pray for the country will be hosted by the Soldotna-Kenai Body of Christ. Community leaders will speak and attend the service. It will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Soldotna High School. For more information, contact the Soldotna Church of God at 262-4729.

American Legion plans ceremony

The American Legion will sponsor a commemoration ceremony, beginning by recognizing emergency service personnel who have remained strong and upheld the honor of patriotism. There will be a number of different events during the ceremony, including the placement of ceremonial wreaths to commemorate past war-fighters who are now deceased.

The ceremony will begin at noon Wednesday at the Kenai Central High School auditorium. An open house will be held at the American Legion immediately following the ceremony. For more information, call Sue Diaz at 283-3222.

Planning coalition to hold meeting

The Community Rivers Planning Coalition will hold its first informational meeting of the year on "Borough Propositions: Let's get informed." Two borough propositions will be highlighted at the meeting: Proposition No. 1 -- school board representation, and Proposition No. 5 -- proposed Anchor Point Port and Harbor Service Area. There will be panel discussion with members on each side of the issue. The meeting will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Chapman School. Open house slated at PenDOG

The Peninsula Dog Obedience Group will hold an open house Sept. 28 to celebrate National Dog Week. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its facility, Mile 1 of the Kenai Spur Highway in the Richards Veterinary Clinic building in Soldotna.

Demonstrations will include agility, tracking and the different levels of obedience, plus there will be guest speakers and information ranging from guide dogs to what to do with your pet in a disaster. Refreshments and drawings also are planned. For more information, call 262-6846 or 283-7515.
