On Thursday, Kenai and Soldotna residents will get a chance to give something back to the community, as well as honor those who already have.
That day, to mark the second anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the mayors of Kenai and Soldotna will host the Twin Cities Mayors' Blood Drive and Salute to Community Service at the Soldotna Sports Center.
According to Soldotna Mayor Dave Carey, the event is a way to show appreciation for community members who serve in the armed forces, honor guards, scouts, Young Marines, service organizations and other community service groups.
The event will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the sports center with a community blood drive.
At 7:30, Carey and Kenai Mayor John Williams will host "A Salute to Community Service," a celebration of those volunteers and organizations that give something back to the community each day.
The entire community is encouraged to attend. The event is free.
