Longtime Soldotna resident Maynard Manuel Tompkins Jr. died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at Central Peninsula General Hospital from a heart attack. He was 63.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, at Funny River Bible Church, 33344 Brown's Lake Road in Soldotna. Pastor Joel Poe will officiate.
Mr. Tompkins was born Sept. 26, 1940, in Keating Summit, Pa. He moved to the Kenai-Soldotna area in 1973 and began working for the Marathon Oil Co. until he retired in the early 1990s. He was a member of the Funny River Bible Church and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Mr. Tompkins was preceded in death by his father, Maynard Manuel Tompkins Sr.; and mother, Lorena May.
He is survived by his son, Timothy Tompkins of Soldotna; daughters, Tamara Cooke of Soldotna and Jennifer Tompkins of Decatur, Ala.; sisters, Janice Gerringer of Eldred, Pa., Betty Faulkner of Battle Ground, Wash., and Lorena Corson of Anchorage; brother, Elmer Tompkins of California; grandchildren, Abigail Cooke and Emily and Brittany Mattfield, all of Soldotna; and half-brothers, Matthew Kinnaird of Little Valley, N.Y., Theodore Kinnaird of Houston and Thomas Kinnaird of Hinsdale, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the family at P.O. Box 2332, Soldotna, AK 99669.
