Industry Appreciation Day appreciated

I want to express my appreciation to the creators and organizers of Industry Appreciation Day. It is an event that sets our community apart, and in high esteem. Rather than waiting and feeling entitled for the Goose to lay another golden egg, for the last 18 years even as our industrial base has been waning, the Kenai Peninsula has gathered to say thank you for the jobs we still have in oil and gas, fishing, and tourism. We've got it right and like Ziggy said, "Life doesn't give you a chance, Life is a chance to give!"

Finding words to express my personal appreciation for being honored with the Don Gilman Community Service Award is indeed difficult. It was a shock to say the least, and without a doubt a highpoint in my life. Don Gilman was a mentor, friend, and model community servant. An inspirational teacher, Borough Mayor, State Senator, and statesman, Don Gilman made a great contribution to building this community and the State of Alaska from the innovative Kenai River Center that makes government agencies efficient and accessible to property tax exemptions for seniors and veterans, Don was a voice of reason and common sense. Receiving the Don Gilman Community Service Award gives me a lot to live up to. Thank you very much.
