Kenai River Brewing Company is holding an artwork design contest for its Breakfast Beer. The winning design will receive $200 and be credited for the design, which may be reproduced on T-shirts, hats, bottle labels, pins, coasters and/or posters. The winning entrant will work with Kenai River Brewing Company to develop a finished design, which will be professionally printed for our Breakfast Beer line.
The design should fit on an 8-by-11 sheet of paper, designs may be full-color, but should be easily modifiable to work in situations with limited color options, design and text requirements: Breakfast Beer.The deadline is Sept. 15. Drop designs off at Kenai River Brewing Company in Soldotna at 241 N. Aspen Drive. Submissions become property of Kenai River Brewing Company, with credit given to the artist.

The Peninsula Art Guild is holding its Harvest Auction Benefit on Spet. 25 at the Kenai Fine Art Center in Old Town Kenai from 6 to 9 p.m. Benefit tickets are available for $35 and raffle tickets to win a Jim Evenson Stone Lithograph are available for $5 a piece or five for $20 at the fine arts center, Kenai Visitors Center, Artworks and Donna's Gifts.
The Homer Documentary Film Festival opens on September 30 with "Babies", the remarkable tale of the first year in the life of infants in Mongolia, Namibia, San Francisco and Tokyo, and their parents. A sensation so far this year in theatres, this film is joined with seven of the Best Docs of 2010, from around the world. The Festival runs for a week and the individual movies are scheduled so that attendees can see them all. There is a festival discount pass to make this easy. One on the filmmakers will attend to present his film to the Homer Fest film lovers, who have come from all over Alaska and the Lower 48 to Homer for a great week of the best Docs in the world.

The Great American Circus will be coming to Soldotna Oct. 8 with two performances beginning at 5 and 8 p.m.

Dance the night away under crystal chandeliers with the Kenai Watershed Forum on Oct. 9 from 7 p.m. until midnight at its Black Tie Crystal Ball in Soldotna's Peninsula Center Mall. Ten door prize packages valued over $1,000 each will be given away. This fundraising event will benefit the Kenai Watershed Forum's education, restoration, and research programs. The Clarion is seeking students in grades nine through 12 from central peninsula high schools interested in writing for its Verbatim column. The column is designed to let teens voice their opinions on topics that affect their daily life home, family, school, peers, social pressures, etc. The column length is 300 words minimum and 500 words maximum.
Deadline to submit a sample column for consideration is Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. Submissions must include first and last name, school, grade, mailing address and contact phone number.
