This is the last edition of The Star for the Lynns, Pat and Jean, who founded the paper a decade ago. It's also the end of the shift for Karen Cline, our devoted friend and colleague who shaped our paper each week with her creativity and remarkable computer skills. Starting tomorrow, new owner Michele Vasquez and her new editors, Tommy and Pattie Wells, will put their stamp on this newspaper. We wish them well and we plan to be on tap to assist as called upon.
This past decade has been immensely satisfying for us as we sought to produce a newspaper that reflected the ''people side'' of the local news rather than the establishment.
For the past decade, Valdez has been fortunate in having two competing newspapers. It's a wonderful choice for readers and advertisers. If you don't like one newspaper, you can always go down the street to the other. What's wrong with that? The only thing better than two newspapers in town is three newspapers. The more views the better.
Over the past decade we've gathered a large number of friends and, to be sure, a large number of detractors. And there's nothing wrong with that either. We're as entitled to our share of critics as much as anyone else.
So, it's sayonara for the Lynns, the goofy little editors of the Star, as they head into semiretirement in this goofy -- but splendid -- little town. Adieu.
